Partner Map: Star Dental Partners

Prepared for Lee Crawford | Star Dental Partners | October 2026

As of Oct 6, 2026. Counts from published federal statistics on US companies, dated in the notes at the foot

Star Dental Partners grows by partnering with dental practices, so this page maps those practices rather than buyers. It covers the thirteen states and Washington, D.C. your geographic focus page lists. Each state is counted from a public count of dental practice companies by the number of people the whole company employs. Practices under 20 staff and small groups are shown apart from the larger groups. It says nothing about which practices Star already knows or supports.

Dental practice companies under 20 staff

36,000

Your thirteen states and Washington, D.C. together, 2022.

Of those, practices with 10 to 19 staff

8,000

The larger end of the practices under 20 staff.

Small dental groups, 20 to 99 staff

2,100

They run about 3,200 offices between them.

Offices owned by companies with 100 or more staff

4,200

Offices run by the larger dental companies.

Practices by state

Dental practice companies with paid staff in each state, by the size of the whole company, 2022.

The first four columns count companies, the last counts offices. A company with offices in two states counts once in each state. The code covers general dentists and specialists together. In Texas the total and the under 20 count both round to 10,000.

Who decides

The people who usually decide whether a practice joins a support organization.

GroupRoles
Practices under 20 staffThe owner dentist, and a co-owner or the person who runs the business side; the office manager shapes the first conversation
Small groups, 20 to 99 staffThe founding or managing dentist, the partners, and a practice administrator or director of operations

What no public count reaches

Two questions this page cannot answer from a count, said in words rather than shown as numbers.

Which owners are thinking about a transition. The owner's age, a planned retirement or a partner leaving is what usually starts the conversation, and no public count shows it. The named version lists the practices. Which owners are thinking about it shows only in conversation.

Which groups already have a partner. The last column counts offices owned by larger companies, but no public list says which of the smaller practices and small groups have already signed with another support organization.

Three openings

Where the counts point.

Practices with 10 to 19 staff.

About 8,000 practices across your states have 10 to 19 staff. A practice that size carries the billing, hiring and payroll load your homepage offers to take on, and the owner is still the person who decides.

Small groups with 20 to 99 staff.

Groups with 20 to 99 staff count about 2,100 across your states, state by state, and run about 3,200 offices between them. Many run more than one office, so one conversation can cover more than one.

Texas and Florida hold the most.

Texas and Florida together hold about 17,000 of the 36,000 practices under 20 staff in your states. A list worked state by state starts where the count is largest.

Denominators, definitions and sources

  1. Counts are employer firms and their establishments in the federal annual statistics of US businesses, 2022, the newest year published, industry 621210 offices of dentists. A firm is every location under one owner. Staff is paid employees across the whole firm in the mid-March 2022 pay period. Practices with no paid staff are not counted.
  2. The file withholds some of the largest size classes in some states. The companies and offices with 100 or more staff are therefore the state total less the published classes below 100, so no withheld figure is guessed.
  3. The states are the thirteen states and Washington, D.C. your geographic focus page lists. Built from published federal statistics, counts banded deliberately. Figures of 100 and over are rounded to two significant figures, figures from 10 to 99 to the nearest ten.

The named version of this page, the actual practices inside a row, is built one row at a time. If you want to walk through a row together, pick a time at cal.com/ecg. Prepared by Ben Beattie, ben@enquirerconsulting.com.
